what is this abyss
taunts within
it echoes of slight
hardening sin

shuttered souls
destinies cheated
falling prey
unduly depleted

chaste aversion
partnered without
silencing spirit
with widening doubt

bound love
purged apart
grinding chances
broken heart

pining salvation
tragedy’s kiss
surrounded in tears
and hopes amiss

haunted stiff
rife with shame
languishing heft
doubling blame

lead asunder
persisting vice
bereft to toil
in lost paradise

below the quaking
tempest parched sea
deluges of mercy
surging free

retrieving anchors
where stars collide
raising the banner
changing the tide
